reflections on crying

I think I have noted that when I do blog, I usually do it here

Here's the latest:

Crying; Part 1

Times I was so happy that I cried (that I can remember) in chronological order:

1. When my friend was elected President of MN 4-H.
2. When I ate the best buffalo-chicken sandwich on Earth.
3. When I got married.
4. When my new sewing machine worked perfectly (All the sewing machines I had previously used have had chronic problems, especially with the tension).
5. When reflecting on how responsible, healthy, stable, and mature my sister has become in the last year.

Crying; part 2

I don’t cry easily. I rarely cry in public or even in front of friends and family….even when I am really sad. However, seeing other people cry tends to make me cry.

Crying; part 3

I, like many women, cry more readily whilst in the throws of PMS. Especially during this time, Hallmark commercials make me cry. The worst commercial is actually the Christmas commercial from Folgers where the brother comes home from the army or college or something and his little sister comes down the stairs and they make coffee for their parents.
Just thinking about it makes me get a little teary, and I don’t even currently have PMS. I am a sap.

Good movies/books can make me cry very easily. Something about catharsis like that, I dunno, I cry more easily at events (happy/sad/beautiful/etc) in fictional situation than I do in real life. Not sure why. For example, I've never watched Edward Scissorhands without crying. Not once. Or the ride of the Rohirrim in The Return of the King? When Theoden is giving his speech, and they all begin to ride down Pellanor Fields, knowing that most of them will die but determined to die gloriously? I've never not cried at that. It's not even that it's sad, it's so much more than that. It's just so...beautiful, tragic, and emotionally-draining-yet-ultimately-fulfilling to me. (ok, seriously, I am starting to tear up just thinking about it.)
